Professional biography

A career built across the institutions that defined modern Indian nuclear medicine.

Dr. Ishita B. Sen is one of India's most distinguished nuclear medicine specialists, with over 30 years of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in Nuclear Medicine, Molecular Imaging, and Theranostics. She currently serves as Director and Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging at Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram — a role she has held since 2011 — and practices under the banner of Theranostic Physicians Private Limited (TPPL).

A graduate of the Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals, New Delhi, Dr. Sen's postgraduate credentials span nuclear medicine, with specialised international training at some of the world's most respected institutions: the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York, USA (Visiting Fellowship in the Medical Management of Thyroid Cancer); the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; the University of Marburg, Germany (Thyroid Cancer Preceptorship); and a Regional Training Course in Myocardial SPECT Imaging at Fu Wai Hospital, Beijing, China.

Her areas of clinical expertise and special interest include Nuclear Oncology, Radionuclide Therapy, PET-Guided Interventional Procedures, and Infection Imaging. Prior to her appointment at FMRI, Dr. Sen served as a Consultant in Nuclear Medicine at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi (2000–2010) and as Consultant & Head of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT at the Artemis Health Institute, Gurugram (2010–2011).

Dr. Sen holds significant positions in the national and international nuclear medicine community. She is the President of the Association of Nuclear Medicine Physicians of India (ANMPI); a member of the International Task Force on Standard Operating Procedures for Clinical Practice, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna; a DNB Teacher and Assessor in Nuclear Medicine under the National Board of Examinations, India; and a Co-Investigator in the IAEA Project on the Role of Scintimammography using Newer Technetium Agents in the Detection of Breast Cancer.

A prolific academic contributor, Dr. Sen has authored numerous reviews, clinical communications, and abstracts in imaging and oncology. She is the first author of the foundational Indian publication on Ac-225 PSMA-617 targeted alpha therapy in post-chemotherapy metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (Annals of Nuclear Medicine, 2021) — and has organised and chaired workshops, seminars, and CME programmes in nuclear medicine both in India and internationally.
